Using GIMP’s display map filter for photorealistic effects

Fence-Post on deviantart.com created this easy to use tutorial which shows one how to use the one of the most under utilized ” the Displace Map filter” tool to get depth and realism to your work.

According to Fence-Post, it’s not just for text, however. It can be used to map textures to landscapes, make tattoos look more realistic, photomanipulations, etc. etc. The list is really endless.

In the tutorial we fit text to an uneven surface using the tool. The final output of your effort will be as shown in the image below.
